The observation deck smelled of burnt coffee and ozone.
Freyja pressed her palm flat against the viewport glass, feeling the subsonic rumble of Kephar Prime's death throes through her bones. She'd been awake for thirty-one hours. Her uniform—a captain's jacket with the colony insignia fraying at the left shoulder—hung open, the shirt beneath stained with sweat and something darker that had dried to a stiff brown crust near her collarbone.
