▶ Read “The Last Lantern of Hyrule” on ProsperoThe water was still draining when she opened her eyes.
Zelda lay on a stone bed in a room she did not recognize. The ceiling was carved with Sheikah script—old, the lines half-eroded by moisture, green-black with something living in the grooves. Somewhere a pump cycled, pulling the last of the suspended fluid from the basin. She sat up too fast and her vision slid sideways. Her stomach clenched. She pressed both palms flat against the stone and waited for the world to stop tilting. The stone was wet.
The Shrine of Resurrection. She knew the name without knowing how. She knew the shape of the room, the blue glow fading from the conduits in the walls, the empty basin beside hers where water had settled and gone still. No second bed. No second body. Only the drained channel where another sleeper should have been.
